Updates are what keep your computer safe. Without them you're a sitting duck in a pond with hundreds of
millions of hunters. More than likely you're going to to be a dead duck if you don't keep things updated.
Security updates for your Operating System (OS) patch critical security vulernabilities (exploits) that hackers
and worms can use to break in and infect you. If your PC is turned on and on the internet, that's all it takes
to get exploited by one of these vulnerabilities.
New computers, used computers, and freshly reinstalled computers are all extremely vulnerable. Sometimes they're
lacking well over 100 updates. From the time you first put it on the internet, until the time you install the last
update, you're a sitting duck, vulnerable to millions of attacks. If you have me install the updates for you on
a "new" PC you have purchased or reinstalled, I will assume responsibility for any infections that could happen
until everything is up to date. It's better safe than sorry, and for $10, safety is cheap.
Depending on how many updates you are lacking, this service may or may not be available on-site at your location.
Installing hundreds of updates can take several hours on some PC's, and I can't in good conscience charge you by
the hour for such a simple service. If you don't want to part with your PC (in-home customers), I'll make sure
to show you how to manually check for additional updates and install them, and get you started before I leave -
for no charge, of course.
